The family of Corporal 3530545 George Rawlinson present a Japanese Katana sword to the Museum of the Manchester Regiment.  George was a member of B Company of the Second Battalion during the fighting in Burma, and captured this sword.

George, in the words of the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Robert 'Rex' King-Clark was 'later to become Sergeant serving with the post-war 1st Battalion in Rhine Army and Malaya.

In his early days in the Regiment something of a problem to his superiors, but as a never-say-die boxer and soldier in action (Mentioned in Despatches and received the Commander in Chief's Certificate for Gallantry) he was an asset to his Company and the Battalion.

After he left the Atrmy he became a pillar of the Burma Star Association in his home town of Heysham.  His house is called Kohima.  Died February 1989.
